iPad, MacBook & Console
This guide covers the larger devices: iPad screens and batteries, MacBook parts, tablets and games consoles. They share one problem, which is that the part has to be matched to a model code rather than a name.

Three routes, and you only need one of them
Take the route that matches the device on the bench.
iPad screens
Take this route for the tablet screen jobs. Access varies enormously between generations, and the digitiser and the display are separate parts on several models.
iPad batteries and parts
Take this route when the tablet needs more than glass. iPad batteries are bonded in place, which changes both the time and the risk of the job.
Consoles and laptops
Take this route for the non-phone devices that arrive with a repair request. Model matching and part availability decide whether it is worth quoting.
Why these devices need a different approach
Tablets and laptops are not big phones, and two differences change how the job is quoted.
Identification before anything else
Apple’s tablets and laptops are identified by A-number, and the same marketing name often covers several hardware revisions with different parts inside. The guesswork that a phone repairer can sometimes get away with does not work here, because the cost of a wrong iPad or MacBook part is much higher and the return process is slower. Every guide in this group starts with matching the identifier, and the identifier tables cover iPad, MacBook and Samsung devices.
Bonded assemblies and risk
iPad screens and batteries are bonded, which means removing them is a heat-and-patience job rather than a parts swap, and the risk of breaking the original component is higher than on a phone. That changes the quote: it is not the part that costs the most, it is the time and the probability of damaging something else. The guides here set out the process and the tools, so the price reflects the real risk rather than a hopeful estimate.
What actually decides a tablet or laptop repair — four things
Four variables, and the first one decides whether the job is worth taking at all.
Part availability
Some models have no reliable aftermarket supply. Checking availability before quoting prevents a promise the market cannot keep.
The A-number or model code
One name covers several revisions. Ordering against the identifier is not optional on these devices.
Bonded assemblies
Heat, adhesive and patience. The risk of damaging the original part is the real cost of the job, not the component price.
The value of the device
Where the repair approaches the replacement value, the honest recommendation is often not to repair. That conversation protects the shop’s reputation.
Where to go from here
These devices share their diagnosis with the phone guides.
Tablet and console questions
The short answers, each linked to the article set behind it.
Why do I need the A-number for an iPad repair?
Because one product name covers several hardware revisions with different screens, batteries and connectors inside. The A-number on the back of the device identifies the exact revision, and ordering without it is the most common reason a tablet part has to be returned.
Is an iPad battery replacement harder than a phone?
Yes. The battery is bonded into the chassis rather than held on tabs, so removal needs controlled heat and patience, and the risk of damaging the display or the frame is higher. That is why a tablet battery job costs more in time than it does in parts.
Are Nintendo Switch screens worth replacing?
Often yes, because the device holds its value and the repair is straightforward compared with a tablet. Whether it is worth it depends on the model and on what the customer is prepared to pay, which is the same calculation as any other repair.
Can a MacBook screen be replaced by a repair shop?
It can, but the part has to be matched by model number and the supply of assemblies is narrower than for a phone. Many shops quote it and source the assembly to order rather than holding stock, which is the sensible approach for a low-volume, high-cost part.
What should I do when the repair costs nearly as much as the device?
Say so. Recommending against a repair is a normal professional answer where the numbers do not work, and it is what keeps a customer coming back for the job where they do.
Send the A-number and we will confirm the part
Give us the model identifier for the iPad, MacBook, tablet or console, and what the customer is asking for. You will get the matching part options, availability and trade pricing before you commit to the job.
