The connector shape does not tell you its data speed, video support or charging capability. Start by checking the written specification, then test the same cable with a known-working computer port and device before blaming either socket.<\/p>\n<p>If the cable is unmarked and the computer never detects the device, a second known data cable is the quickest useful comparison. One successful charge is evidence that power is reaching the device; it is not proof that the cable carries data.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p><strong>Key checks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Confirm that the listing states data support, not charging alone.<\/li>\n<li>Test the same phone and computer port with a known data cable.<\/li>\n<li>Treat data speed, charging wattage and video support as separate capabilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Does every USB-C cable transfer data?<\/h2>\n<p>Two cables with identical USB-C plugs can support different functions. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usb.org\/cable_connector\">USB-IF, the organisation behind USB specifications, states that cables are certified for different purposes<\/a> and that users must select a cable with the capabilities required for their setup.
